Contact Drills
Davis Love Drill
Davis Love III learned to play golf from his father Davis Love Jr. Love Jr. was a world renowned golf instructor when Love III was growing up. He gave Davis Love III a drill that taught solid contact while also working on clubhead speed, and tempo.
The drill consists of using a full swing but hitting the golf ball deferent distances. Start the drill by using the full swing, but hit the ball about 25% of its full distance. Once ball striking and ball flight become consistent increase swing speed so the ball goes 50% of its full distance. Repeat this process until build upto 100% power.
Davis Love Jr. didn’t let Love III move upto the next power level until he hit the ball as straight as he could. Davis Love III answers many people that when he wants to hit the ball further he tries to make a perfect swing rather than swing harder. His goal is to make perfectly square contact on the sweet spot.
