Contact Drills for Irons
Extension Drill
Set up in your address position. Push the club parallel to the ground with the toe up on the target side. Hold this position (your extension) for a two count and swing to the top of the backswing and swing through to a balanced finish. While swing through to the finish let the club pass through the point where you held your extension position. This drill works on keeping your posture through impact.
The Divot Drill
Do you hit a lot of golf balls fat or thin, yet have good posture? If so, then your ball position may be incorrect. This simple drill can tell you easily where to correctly position the golf ball. Take a swing without a golf ball on a grass covered range or on a fairway. Take a divot. Take notice where the divot is in your stance. For a correct ball position the ball should be placed just before the divot begins. The correct ball position promotes a slightly downward ball striking motion and solid contact with the ball.
