Why push ups? First the price is right. It does not cost anything to do a push up unless you buy push bars or handles. They can be done anywhere at almost any time. They are a basic and common exercise that anyone can do. They work many muscle groups including the chest, triceps, biceps, shoulders, and torso.
How will push ups benefit you the golfer? Getting your body into the push up position engages the core muscles in your torso. A stronger core will protect your lower back, help with posture, and keep your body more stable. Stronger shoulders and chest will help you stabilize the club while you swing it. Being able to do 100 push ups will also give these muscles a sense of endurance.
Are you for the challenge? I began the test today and was surprised a how few push ups I could do in a row. I assumed I was in relatively good shape but I assumed wrong. I though I could easily get to at least 30 push ups and was surprised I could only do 16. Challenge your self and set a goal of doing 100 push ups in a row within 6 weeks.
