Tiger Woods 2006 Review and Early 2007 Predictions

A roller coaster ride of emotions would be an understatement for the year Tiger Woods had in 2006. From early back to back wins followed by the death of his father. Later winning the last six official PGA events he played in the year to allegations from the Irish press core about his wife and winning an eight PGA player of the year award.

As usual Tiger usually began his season at the Buick invitational in San Diego. A tournament where he has had lots of success and naturally he won the event. His next win came on the European Tour when he won the Dubai Desert Classic. A few weeks later he won the Ford Championship for the second year in a row (in 2007 the CA Championship will be held at Doral’s Blue Monster course). And he finished the spring by finishing third at The Masters.

Shortly after, Earl Woods, Tiger’s father passed away after battling cancer. Tiger took time off to mourn his father’s death. Earl woods was not only a great father he mentored and help provide inspiration to Tiger and his pursuits.

Tiger Woods first tournament back was the US Open at the difficult Winged Foot course. This event marked the first time Tiger Woods missed the cut at a major tournament. At this point in the season many golf analysts wondered if Tiger lost his edge since the death of his father.

Soon Tiger started to get into a groove. He placed tied for second at the Western Open. His next tournament, The British Open, he won in decisive fashion. He beat the field while only using his driver off the tee twice in 72 holes. Typical of Open Championship courses, Hoylake was suffering from a drought and Tiger took advantage of the dry conditions by keeping the ball in the fairway and letting the ball roll. After words he went on to win the next five, PGA Tour sanctioned, stroke play events tying a personal record of winning six PGA starts in a row. Of these five events three of them were sponsored by companies he endorses Buick, American Express and Deutsche Bank.

During the week leading up to the Ryder Cup an Irish magazine made allegations that Tigers wife had topless pi cutes circulating the internet. Tiger was so upset after reading the allegations he went ot the media tent to defend his wife and deny those rumors. The magazine did admit after wards that the photo were indeed not Tiger’s wife.

Last week he was name the PGA Player of the year for the eighth time and he won the invitational tournament he holds every year, The Target World Challenge.

Can Tiger carry this momentum into 2007. Looking at in the past it is hard to deny that history will not repeat itself as it did in 2000 and 2001 where he combined for 17 wins in those two years. I believe he will win 4 events prior to the US Open in June. The wins will come at the Buick Invitational, the new CA Championship, the Bay Hill Invitational, and The Masters.
