Stop Slicing Part 3: Hit balls that lie above your feet
This third instalment of Stop Slicing works on the path of the club once more. It also works on flattening the plane of your swing. Both factors are inter-related. To help create an inside path we need to flatten the plane.
Find a spot on the range or golf course that will allow you to hit balls so they lie above your feet. To compensate for the ball being above your feet grip down on the club slightly. The way the ball sits on the ground encourages the club to be swing on the inside path. The tendency to come over the top will encourage ‘fat’ shots. To catch the ball flush we need to flatten our swing a little. Again the flatter swing will encourage proper forearm rotation through the impact zone.
The lie angle of the club changes because of the side hill lie and due to the loft on the club the ball flight from a well struck shot will cause the ball to go to the left (for right handed golfers). To compensate for this fact allow for a draw when setting up. After a few shots, go back to flat ground on the range and hit a few shots. Do you notice a difference? If not, repeat until you see results.
