2008 Masters Poll Results and How They Finished

Congratulations to Trevor Immelman for winning the 2008 Masters and his first major tournament win. With only one real hiccup in the final round, the double bogey on 16, Trevor played very steady considering the pressure and the windy conditions on Sunday. I thought the approach shot into 18 was one of his best all day since the ball was lying in the back of a divot.

As for the poll question of Who Will Win the 2008 Masters the given players were: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Geoff Ogilvy, Ernie Els, or Someone Else. From these choices the 50% chose Tiger Woods (a safe bet), 30% chose Someone Else (an even safer bet), and 10% chose Geoff Ogilvy and Phil Mickelson. Here is how these golfers finished:

  • Someone Else (Trevor Immelman) - 1st
  • Tiger Woods - 2nd
  • Phil Mickelson - T5
  • Vijay Singh - T14
  • Zack Johnson - T20
  • Geoff Ogilvy - T39
  • Ernie Els - Missed Cut

For the record I chose Geoff Ogilvy. I though Geoff was playing very well coming into the event and was starting to gain confidence with his improved play. Geoff hits the ball fairly long and hit the ball on a higher trajectory which is a must on those greens.

well you have to say well done to trevor, but i think this was the dullest Masters i have seen to date , Tiger did not seem bothered that he missed the short putts

I loved the Masters this year! Trevor Immelman played very consistent and held on for the victory late. I agree, that shot on 18 was incredible.

I really didn’t know much about Trevor before the Masters, even though I am an avid golfer. He was just always one of those guys that never quite made it to the top. I have to say I was very impressed with his game coming down the stretch, although that tee shot on #16 left me shaking my head. He’s a great young talent, hopefully all of his physical ailments are now behind him.
