From Rocco Mediate being tied for the lead after the first round. Greg Norman being the leader after 54 holes. Norman set a record as the oldest player to hold a 54 hole lead. Harrington was contemplating withdrawing from the event due to a sore wrist.

As for the poll only one person predicted that Padraig Harrington would defend his title. Two players in the poll tied for the most votes: Sergio Garcia and Tiger Woods. Tiger was added to the poll as a trick. If you do not follow golf you may not have realized that Tiger announced he was taking the rest of the season off to repair a torn ACL and stress fracture in his left leg. Ernie Els had the third most vote and played steady on the weekend after a rough first round. The other players that received 1 vote each were Phil Mickelson and Rocco Mediate.
