How Did Tiger Woods Win the 2008 Buick Invitational

The [tag]2008 Buick Invitational[/tag] was historic on two fronts. First, [tag]Tiger Woods[/tag] tied Arnold Palmer for career wins on the PGA Tour with 62. Also the Buick Invitaional is the third tournament that Tiger Woods has won 6 times. But how did Tiger win the 2008 Buick Invitational?

Looking at the statistics did Tiger dominate every category? Which categories did he dominate? Some numbers will surprise you and others may not.

Driving Distance. Tiger was T16 in this category with an average drive of 283.6 yards. Pretty good considering the weather conditions (wind, moisture, and cooler temperatures).

Driving Accuracy. Tiger was a full 10% lower than the tournament average and 30% below the leader who was Mark O’Meara. This is definately an area he will want to improve upon for the US Open.

ScramblingGreens in Regulation. Being a strong iron player Tiger was T2 in this category for the week. Even though he missed a little more than half the fairways he was still able to get the ball on the green in regulation.

Putting. Tiger was the leader for the week for putts per green in regulation and putts per round. On average Tiger was taking 2.49 stokes per day putting than the tournament average.

Scoring Average. Since he won this is a no brainer Tiger led the field with the lowest scoring average. This stat is not suprising if you looking only at his greens in regulation and putting statistics. At this point the only person who could beat you is if the person who led the greens in regulation statistical category also led the putts per green hit in regulation.

It is hard to argue that a player had weaknesses when they dominated the field. Torrey Pines is hosting the the [tag]2008 US Open[/tag] and the rough will become more dangerous so accuracy will be important. Scrambling becomes very important at the US Open since the USGA makes conditions as difficult as possible. These would be two area I think Tiger will be working on to repeat this weeks performance when he plays here again in June.

The Tiger is on the prowl but I for one look forward to seeing whether Ernie Els can make an impact this year. The Big Easy has all too often had an easy attitude towards golf and this year sees him change his strategy to play less tourneys and focus on the Majors.

And for those who don’t know, South Africans have won more major golf titles than any other country albeit the USA.

    Some feat

yea Tiger can pull off some pretty ridiculous stuff. i still cant believe all of the comebacks he has pulled, but he is just a clutch player, like MJ was on the court.

All i can say about Tiger is he is so mentally strong that he is unstoppable and hey , i still think Poulter can catch him , i mean ian is such a nice guy that was said as a joke and completely taken out of context.

Tiger is the best! That is why he wins. All he has to do is be in a tournament and over half the field is beaten. He has gotten his reputation by being good and fearless on the course.

This was the best golf tournament I have ever seen. I have no idea how Tiger did it limping around the course. He is the best ever…

If people forget Buick is one of Tigers biggest sponsers and this is their tournament what makes you think they didnt pick or design the course to fit all of Tigers strengths not that he has weaknesses!

Well Franco the course has been around for a while. And Buick designs cars not golf courses.
